Solid Angle Maya To Arnold v1.3.1 For Maya 2017 OSX-AMPED
I successfully installed MtoA 220.127.116.11 on Mac OS X 10.11.5, and runs with Maya 2017. Here’s a step by step to install mtoa:
The key is that you need to install the license server, and you MUST have the administrator privileges (I mean the administrator password) to do this.
1- Unzip and Unrar the stuff until you have the installer (MtoA-18.104.22.168-darwin-2017.pkg) and the AMPED folder that must contain the following files: rlm, rlmutil, solidangle.lic, solidangle.opt and solidangle.set.
2- Install by double clicking the file MtoA-22.214.171.124-darwin-2017.pkg, use the defaults (remember that the installer asks for the administrator password).
3- Open the terminal (that lives in Applications/Utilities) and type: chmod +x (remember to left a space after x) and click (in the window of the folder AMPED), the file rlm, then drag and drop the file into the terminal window, immediately you will see that the full path to the file is written automatically inside the terminal window, then press enter; then you will notice that the icon of the file rlm inside the folder AMPED changes to black and the kind changes to Unix Executable File. Do the same thing to the file rlmutil. Now you have converted rlm and rlmutil to Unix Executable Files that OS X can run.
4- Create a folder by right clicking here: /Users/here your user name/ that is called solidangle and inside this folder you must create the folder RLM. At the end you must have this folder structure:/Users/here your user name/solidangle/RLM
5- Copy all the files, once you have completed step 3 and 4, from the AMPED folder to RLM folder, so inside RLM folder you must have rlm, rlmutil, solidangle.lic, solidangle.opt and solidangle.set
6- In order to start the license server forever, I mean that each time you start your machine Arnold will be available inside Maya you must do the following:
a- open TextEdit (lives in Applications) and copy and paste the following:
———–Not Include This Beginning Dashed Line———–
-c /Users/User Name/solidangle/RLM/solidangle.lic
-dlog /Users/User Name/solidangle/RLM/solidangle.dlog
———–Not Include This Ending Dashed Line————–
And make sure that you don’t leave blank spaces at the beginning and at the end of the file, nor inside the code. Remember to change, in the code above, the User Name to your own user name, for example administrator, robert, peter, john, jane etc.
b- Save the file (this is very important) as “com.solidangle.rlm.plist” (of course save the name without the quotes “”) and put somewhere, for example in your desktop.
7- Copy the file com.solidangle.rlm.plist you have created to the folder /Library/LaunchDaemons/ (this process will ask for your administrator password)
8- Open again the terminal window and type the following:
sudo chown root /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.solidangle.rlm.plist
the sudo command will ask you for your adminstrator password. The chown root command changes the ownership of the file com.solidangle.rlm.plist from the user (for example administrator or your user name) to root. According to SolidAngle this step allows that the plist will be loaded by the system. The sudo command will ask for your administrator password before execute the command, so have at hand your administrator password.
9- If you want that each time the system boots Arnold will be available for Maya you must, inside the terminal type the following:
sudo launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.solidangle.rlm.plist
After typing this the license server will now automatically start, even after a restart or power down of the machine.
10- You can check the status of your server typing the following address in your web browser: localhost:5054
Then if you click the Status button at left panel, you will see your license server running flawless.
11- Open Maya, and under ShiChuang > Settings/Preferences > Plug-in Manager, you must have a tab near the bottom of the window that must say: /Applications/solidangle/mtoa/2017/plug-ins and mtoa.bundle must be checked in the box Loaded and Auto Load.
NOTE: In Maya, goto ARNOLD tab, Help, licensing….. find where your .lic file is located in the RLM folder and than press install, close.
I found that batch rendering is limited to Tiff and Jpeg file formats. Deleting the Maya Preference may sort this issue out, warning unfortunately doing this will delete ALL your previously saved preference/ shelf buttons etc.,
That’s it folks!
I hope this helps a bit with the installation.
